First Snow!

We awoke to the first snow of the season. It's an early snow and will not stay. But the moment provided a small hint as to what's coming in the months ahead.

Welcome to the real Maine, boys!

First Snowball!

Monday Night's Battle...

Yago decides he's had enough and that he will sleep in the living room.

"What?" says Luiz. "My feet do NOT stink!"

Solution? Rich sprayed shoe freshener on Luiz's feet and in his shoes. Yago returns--all's right with the world.

The Colors of Fall 2009 at Webb Lake and in Rumford (Click on Photos to Enlarge)

Today in Weld... and Rumford...

The Colors of Fall 2009 at Webb Lake and in Rumford (Click on Photos to Enlarge)

This morning, the boys worked at Connie and Ben's for an hour moving furniture out of a room so the floor man can put down a new wooden floor! Then, we drove to the Weld cabins to put in the last chairs before the snow and ice appear! On the way home, Yago took pictures of Rumford and the fall colors. Amazing colors as always in the fall. Luiz prepared a Powerpoint with Jao, another Brasilian exchange student. Yago worked on his presentation, too. A great fall day in sunny Maine.

Mac & Cheese w/ Diet Ginger Ale

Saturday Night's dinner in celebration of Alex & Peter... one of their favorite meals. And as you can see Yago's quite happy with Mac & Cheese, too.

Baseball Boys

The boys discovered an old baseball glove in the house, bought a $1 baseball at the Dollar Store, and borrowed a second glove from Aunt Connie and Uncle Ben... first they played in the yard and then they walked down to the baseball field about 2 minutes from our home. They've been down there for an hour. I have to say that they're pretty good for beginners!

I am OK, Mom!

Luiz has a bruise on his ankle from last night's soccer match (2-1 loss). Here, brother Yago laughs as Luiz puts his sore ankle in ice and water for 20 minutes...it's a bit painful for the first 3-4 minutes. :-/

The match against Mt. Abram High School was a GREAT one. The Falcon boys played athletically and showed their passing skill. Yago and Luiz played wonderfully with great passes and strong work on the soccer pitch. The last match against Mt. Abram at home, the Falcons lost 5-0... the boys have improved!

An American Brunch (breakfast & lunch) at the Route 2 Diner (click on photos to enlarge)

We went for Brunch today at the Route 2 diner in Rumford Center about 4 miles from our house just up the Androscoggin River. The boys sampled Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast and Blueberry Pie Stuffed French Toast. There wasn't much talk at the table as they wolfed down the sweet food. The foliage is at peak color this weekend in western Maine.

Dirigo Match 10/06/09 Yago Front Page!

Yago featured on the front page of the sports section this morning... every American teenager's dream.

Dirigo Match 100609

The Falcon boys played a wildly entertaining match against undefeated Dirigo High School. Luiz Gustavo scored two goals... the second goal was sheer brilliance. His brother Yago defended with strength, as seen in the photo, and he attacked with force.

The Falcons tied Dirigo 3-3 and gathered valuable points toward playing in the tournament. This match has to have been the Falcons best in many respects. They played with athleticism and heart. Congratulations!

Disappointment after a brilliant cross and a header that just missed.

Brilliant Boys!

The Scientists!

Both boys scored a perfect 4.0 in their science tests: Yago in Chemistry and Gustavo in Physics.

Thanks to Aunt Connie for the extra help in preparing!

Trip to University of Maine at Farmington (click photos to enlarge)

On Sunday afternoon we drove to Farmington to watch UMF play Castleton State College of Vermont. A well-played match ending with a 2-0 victory to UMF. We took some photos of the foliage (tree colors) and drank milk shakes.
