Friends at the Winter Holidays
We have had an eventful few days. Rich's friend Mary Hart and her family (below) came to visit for an overnight. The Bennett Family came for the Olympics. Today, Willy Bennett (top, right) had a bad fall at the ski area and was taken by helicopter to a city hospital. All the Bennett kids are here and the news about Willy is great! He has a broken bone in his shoulder, but otherwise he is doing well. He may be in the hospital overnight. The kids are watching soccer and soon the Olympics. We're all very happy that Willy is going to be fine. And Lucky, the Bennett's dog, is resting after a busy time.

A day with Austin
The boys' buddy Austin came for an overnight with Kyle the 'Keeper. Austin stayed for the day as they went bowling, did a McDonald's run, played ping pong, bought Valentine's Cards for Aunt Connie and Austin's mom and, as always... Facebooked and chatted with friends on their computers. For dinner Rich tried a new recipe for chicken enchiladas--probably not as good as Austin's mom makes. But the hot fudge sundaes... who can mess those up?!

Hiking Weld
After ski practice today, we went to Weld and hiked around. Tonight, it's some kind of game (XBox?) with Kyle and Austin in a sleepover.... No Olympics, I guess. 
Hiking Weld
In Weld, we ran into Pam, Fred, and Idiot (Zellie) who had spent the day fishing on the lake and staying in our small winterized cabin. 
Last Ski Practice Before State Championship Ski Meet
The boys suited up for the last time to head to the ski area for a final cross-country ski practice before the state championship ski meet up in Rangeley about 40 minutes from Rumford. Both boys are alternates on the state team--quite an accomplishment for kids who just began skiing in December. Above is a picture of the town by Yago and one of the boys at the mountain's welcome sign.

SCHOOL VACATION!!!
And so what do the boys do when they get out of school today facing 9 days of school vacation? That's right, they open up their computers and play games. It's 0 degrees C today, and the pellet stove room (a.k.a., the dining room is hot) and the back deck in the February sunshine is inviting.

Ray, the Ski Coach!
Ray Broomhall has been coaching for many years---first at Mexico High School and then he stepped in during the 1990's to help out. He's one of the skiing Broomhall brothers and the kids really enjoy him. This may be his last year of coaching at 72 years old. His brother Chummy is 90 years old and was Rich's ski coach when Rich was a young boy. Above is Ray, Luiz, and Ton (Germany).

The boys win the Mountain Valley Conference Ski Championship!Both Luiz and Yago had great races in cross-country skiing today. Luiz landed in 28th place and Yago in 30th. (Click to link to results.)

Mountain Valley Conference Ski Championships
The ski teams had the first race of the Conference Championships yesterday. Cold and windy, the day proved somewhat unsuccessful for the Falcon skiers. However, as the pix reveal, the skiers had a good time in Rangeley at Saddleback Mountain. The next race is Saturday, 02-06-10, at Black Mountain. It's quite a feat that Luiz and Yago are skiing competitively after such a short time on skis! Viva Brasil & Spain! 
Hannah's Birthday Party
Hannah Lapointe lives in our neighborhood and she celebrated her birthday last Saturday evening. Hannah's mom Peggy is a school secretary and has been very kind to all of the exchange students
